The CBSE Class 11 Mathematics syllabus for the 2024-25 academic year is structured into five units, each focusing on key mathematical concepts:
Unit I: Sets and Functions
- Sets: Study of sets and their representations, including empty sets, finite and infinite sets, equal sets, subsets, universal set, Venn diagrams, union, intersection, difference, and complement of sets.
- Relations and Functions: Exploration of ordered pairs, Cartesian product of sets, relations, functions, domain, co-domain, range, and various types of functions such as polynomial, rational, modulus, signum, exponential, logarithmic, and greatest integer functions.
- Trigonometric Functions: Understanding of positive and negative angles, measurement of angles in radians and degrees, trigonometric functions with the help of the unit circle, identities, and graphs of trigonometric functions.
Unit II: Algebra
- Principles of Mathematical Induction: Introduction to the process of proof by induction and its simple applications.
- Complex Numbers and Quadratic Equations: Algebraic properties of complex numbers, Argand and polar representation, fundamental theorem of algebra, solving quadratic equations in complex numbers, and square roots of complex numbers.
- Linear Inequalities: Algebraic solutions and graphical representations of linear inequalities in one and two variables.
- Permutations and Combinations: Fundamental principles of counting, factorial notation, and applications of permutations and combinations.
- Binomial Theorem: Statement and proof of the binomial theorem for positive indices, Pascal’s triangle, and applications of binomial expansions.
- Sequence and Series: Arithmetic Mean (A.M.), Geometric Progression (G.P.), general term of a G.P., sum of n terms of a G.P., infinite G.P., and the relation between A.M. and G.M.
Unit III: Coordinate Geometry
- Straight Lines: Slope of a line, angle between two lines, various forms of equations of a line, and distance of a point from a line.
- Conic Sections: Sections of a cone including circles, ellipses, parabolas, hyperbolas, and degenerate cases like a point, straight line, and pair of intersecting lines. Standard equations and properties of these conic sections.
- Introduction to Three-dimensional Geometry: Coordinate axes and planes in three dimensions, coordinates of a point, and distance between two points.
Unit IV: Calculus
- Limits and Derivatives: Intuitive understanding of limits, limits of polynomial, rational, trigonometric, exponential, and logarithmic functions, definition of derivative, and its applications in finding tangents and rates of change.
Unit V: Statistics and Probability
- Statistics: Measures of dispersion including mean deviation, range, variance, and standard deviation for both grouped and ungrouped data.
- Probability: Basic concepts of probability, random experiments, events, and their applications.
This comprehensive syllabus aims to build a strong foundation in mathematics, preparing students for advanced studies and various competitive examination.
